Mentha Piperita :
Beside This, Indian Mentha Piperita Is Having Lower Menthol Contents With Lower And Higher Menthofuran Level Depending Upon The Type Of Cuttings. During 1st Harvesting It Is Around 4-5% Whereas During 2nd Cut, It Increase To 10-12%. To Increase Menthol Content, L-Menthol From Mentha Arvensis Is Being Used To Increase The Level. This Practice Is Wrong. But Doing This, We Are Changing The Natural Character Of The Product.

Now, India Is Doing Lot Of R&D At Field Level To Develop New Strains Of Mentha Piperita. I Am Please To Inform The World That As On Date Indian Has Developed Total 20 Such Stains, Which Will Give Menthofuran Level From 0.10 To Upto 24%.

Similarly, The Above 20 Strains Will Have Menthol Level Ranging From 35% To 62%. In That Way, The Problem Of Lower L-Menthol Level Is Going To Get Solved. So, India Will Be Ready To Meet The Demand Of The Each Buyer Based Upon Their Own Specification, Without Doing Any Fractionation Distillation Process But To Provide The Oil From The Field As Per Their Own Needs. Is It Not A Great Surprise ? The New Developments Are Also Having The Focus To Get The Crop Matured From 115 Days To 75 Days, Making It More Economical To The Farmers. Once Farmers Became Economical, The Ultimate Product Will Also Became Much Economical.

During The Year 2003, India Had A Production Of Apx. 1500 Mtons Of Mentha Piperita And By The Year 2006, India Will Able To Increase It By 4000 Mtons, Much Sufficient To Retain #1 Position In The World Market.

Just Look To The Current Situation On Mentha Arvensis, India Is Now Exporting Mint Oil And Menthol To China. So, The Days Are Not Far When Usage Will Have Their 90% Dependence On India For Mentha Piperita.
